Improve your critical thinking.
Rediscover your history.
Take action to transform the world.
My name is Margherita Picchi. I am a researcher and a counselor, winner of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) global fellowship in 2024.
My field of expertise lies at the intersection of modern Muslim intellectual and exegetical history and gender studies.
My research bridges different disciplines and perspectives to shed light on alternative narratives about religious, ethnic and gender diversity, with the aim to counter hate speech and discriminatory practices, and promote transcultural coexistence and solidarity.
Counseling
My customized counseling services are designed to help individuals, families, and organizations to enhance their capacities to think critically, rediscover and interpret their own history, and drive meaningful change.

SOS Gender & Diversity
Tailored for companies and NGOs, this service addresses challenges and tensions related to diversity.

Family roots
An exploration of family history, aimed at preserving memories, integrating past and present narratives, and shaping future trajectories.

Inner Exporations
A path of existential and spiritual counseling to help you find your way through life’s labyrinths.
Method
My approach is transformative hermeneutics, which blends historical-critical hermeneutics with liberation theology and pedagogy. This method reveals the hidden nuances of discourse, uncovers the cultural patterns that sustain injustice and trauma, and crafts transformative solutions.
My journey began behind the scenes of the theatre world, where I discovered the transformative power of stories. This foundation later shaped my passion for exploring the intersections of religion, politics, and gender, in an academic journey that led me to specialize in the history of Islamic feminism and liberation theologies, and culminated with the Italian national habilitation to teach Muslim social and intellectual history. In my quest for acquiring forms of knowledge that can drive transformative action, I have lived in Afghanistan, Egypt, and South Africa, blending theoretical research with real-world experience of different contexts other than Europe.
My research bridges different disciplines and perspectives to shed light on alternative narratives about religious, ethnic and gender diversity, with the aim to counter hate-driven discourses and promote transcultural coexistence and solidarity.
Dicono di me
“Con la sua ricerca, Margherita Picchi ci insegna a coltivare quel misto di rispetto e irriverenza per la tradizione da cui si viene che permette di andare oltre i territori noti, e attraverso la comprensione delle diversità altrui, forse, conoscere meglio noi stessi.”
(Lucia Sorbera)
“I came to theory because I was hurting—the pain within me was so intense that I could not go on living. I came to theory desperate, wanting to comprehend—to grasp what was happening around and within me. Most importantly, I wanted to make the hurt go away. I saw in theory then a location for healing.”
(bell hooks)
“Every word is a warrior.
Choose wisely how to deploy your armies.”
(Arnaldo Picchi)
